Every position in football is important and essential to the team, but one of the most underappreciated and undervalued positions is the kicker. When your offense is struggling to convert on drives and put up touchdowns on the scoreboard, you turn to your kicker to get you three points. When you score a touchdown and you need that extra point to get all seven, you turn to the kicker to come through. And when the game is coming down to the wire and you’re not able to get into the end zone before the game ends, you look to your kicker to come up huge in the clutch and come away with a win for the team. Anyone on a football team knows just how vital and important it is to have a good and reliable kicker. There are two kickers in Montgomery County who came in clutch for their teams this past week.
Rubin boots QO past Sherwood
Quince Orchard won a tight game on the road against the Sherwood Warriors by a score of 9-0. All nine of those points came off field goals by kicker Seth Rubin, including a 41-yarder. The offense for QO reached the red zone three times, including one in which they had first and goal on the half-yard line, and each time they were stopped and had to settle for a field goal. They had to call upon Rubin three times, and he delivered every time. On the other side of the field, Sherwood’s kicker had a chance to cut the lead to six and wasn’t able to convert, missing wide left. The defense played lockdown football for QO, as it does every week, but all the points that the team scored came off the big leg of Rubin.

Harrigan’s onside kicks shine
Another impressive kicker this past week was Northwest kicker Daniel Harrigan. Northwest was down by several scores to Seneca Valley late in the game and needed more possessions, so Harrigan and the special teams for Northwest recovered two onside kicks to give their offense a chance to go down and score. Ultimately, Northwest ended up losing the game, continuing its troubling season, but Harrigan was a bright spot.
Kickers to watch in rematch
As Quince Orchard and Northwest get ready to face off once again in just under two weeks, look to the kickers to stand out if and when they are called upon.
